George was first married to Pattie from 1966 to 1977. He later married Olivia Trinidad Arias, a secretary for his record company, Dark Horse, with whom he had a son (his only child), Dhani. According to Olivia, Pattie is a dear friend and she relied on her a great deal after George's death in 2001.
